300 hour yoga teacher training


The 300-Hour Program delves deep into personal practice and expands on the Yoga therapeutics and the art of teaching.  Our emphasis is on developing an insightful and intelligent approach to practice rooted in alignment and connection to Self and others.  This program is designed to support graduates from any 200 Hour Yoga Teacher Training program and take their teaching and practice to the next level. With comprehensive training in Yoga therapeutics, advanced teaching techniques, philosophy, Ayurveda, the human energy system, mentorship programs and more, students will emerge from this program richly educated and transformed.

Program Prerequisite:  Students who have completed a 200-Hour Teacher Training program, and who are ready to expand their teaching and practice through a 300-Hour Immersion.

Course Curriculum:


Mapping Sacred Time: Understanding Our Practice of Yoga in Yoga History

Advanced Yoga Philosophy with Dr. Christopher Wallis (Hareesh)


When we practice yoga today we’re participating in a revolution of ideas and values as well as the transformation of complex traditions that move through history. Just how old is “yoga”? What do we know about its origins and sources? How shall we understand the contemporary practices that are today called “hatha yoga”? And what is the connection between the yoga traditions of ancient India and our modern interpretations? We will explore together these questions as we work to deepen our practice and formulate an honest understanding of the history of yoga. It is a task that, at once, invites us to map the sacred as we explore yoga’s many purposes and forms and to keep ourselves grounded in the rich history of this remarkable human endeavor. No previous understanding and certainly no agendas here: bring an open mind and a willingness to learn as we map the sacred traditions of yoga from Veda to Tantra.

Advanced Applied Anatomy and Biomechanics

This module utilizes fundamental anatomical education to reveal ‘how’ and ‘why’ yoga postures and alignment can be used as a profound tool for healing and transforming the human body. Combining theory, practice and “experiential anatomy” we will explore various postures and alignment models through an objective inquiry into the science of yoga and its intended effect on our amazing human bodies.

Bring any questions or challenges you may be facing and we’ll make anatomy and alignment fun while breaking through obstacles that may be holding your yoga practice back.

Structural Alignment Therapy: Part I


Deepen your knowledge of the human body through the merging of muscular and skeletal anatomy as it relates to optimal biomechanical alignment and therapeutics. In this course, you will study the scientific and holistic views of stability vs. mobility of the body; what is optimal postural alignment in standing and sitting, as well as essential yoga postures; and effective touch techniques for hands-on- adjustments. For each segment of the body we will discuss diagnostics, biomechanics, learn effective therapeutics and yoga postures, and manual adjustments to heal the body of physical injuries and pain. Topics also include the use of yoga postures to strengthen, stabilize, and increase mobility; and how to create self- maintenance programs for your students.

Therapeutic Component:


Lower Body: Feet, ankles, knees. We will cover therapy for: bunions, heel spurs, ankle sprains, pain on the tops of the feet, Achilles tendon sprain, shin splints, ligament and/or meniscus damage, popliteus sprain, hyper-extension, knock- knees, bow-legs.

Pelvis, Spine & Core: Thighs, hips, pelvis, lower back and spine. We will discuss therapy for: piriformis syndrome; sciatica, psoas/groin strain; hip subluxation, leg-length discrepancies, hip issues, back pain, scoliosis, sacroiliac subluxation, spinal subluxation, muscular spasms.

Upper Body: Hands, wrists, elbows, shoulders, neck, head. We will explore therapy for: CT, repetitive stress syndrome, shoulder, elbow, wrist issues, tennis elbow, bursitis, tendonitis, rotator cuff injury; cervical subluxation, TMJ pain and disjunction, headaches, vertigo; whiplash. We will also discuss chronic fatigue, fibromyalgia, therapeutics and modifications in a wide range of yoga asanas

Practice Intensive

During this intensive you will develop the most important cornerstone of being a teacher, your practice.  You will be practicing regularly throughout the program; however, this segment is designed to enhance your growing edge by going deeper into the practice of Yoga, practical Philosophy, Meditation and Pranayama. Weekly extended practices allow time to combine various modalities in an in-depth and experiential way. Be prepared to transform, be inspired and integrate your practice more fully in your life!

Modified Yoga: Teaching the less than flexible, senior students and a rehabilitative practice

While most yoga classes serve the general public, they are not for everyone, particular for those who have limited mobility, injury or other health conditions. This course will offer you the ability to understand and support a diversity of needs and conditions. You will study and apply multiple ways to modify traditional yoga poses, using props such as the wall, blocks, blankets and chairs.

This course will benefit yoga teachers of all traditions, health practitioners (i.e., body workers, nurses, physical therapists, exercise instructors) and those whose practice focuses on seniors and others who need a modified approach to Yoga.

Topics included:


•How to create a welcoming class environment

•Multiple ways to modify traditional yoga poses for individual needs

and incorporate them in a mixed level class

•How to sequence poses in a chair focused class

•How to sequence a class that includes poses done lying down, seated in a chair and standing

•Bed or /table based Sequence: All postures are done lying down

•How to plan relaxation, restorative sequences and breath practices for individual needs

•Methodology for preparatory warm-ups

•Core-Strengthening poses to strengthen the abdomen and back

•Balance-Building standing poses to promote strength and stability

•Logistics of running an on-going class when everyone could use individual attention

•Discussion about osteoarthritis, osteoporosis, chronic fatigue syndrome, fibromyalgia, chronic pain and joint pain or replacements

Ayurveda For Yoga Teachers

“Ayur” means life and “Veda” means knowledge. During this intensive, Natalie Piet will lay the groundwork to understanding this ancient art and science and see how it truly is the “sister” to yoga. Ayurveda offers lifestyle and dietary techniques to promote health and harmony to our physiology. You will learn how this exquisite practice treats each unique individual through an awareness of the mahabuthas-or 5 elements – as they exist in each of us. We will discuss a modern approach to living our yoga to cultivate radiant and vibrant health.

Integration with Asana will weave the energy of the mahabuthas as seen through an Ayurvedic lense. Practice will include breath work, meditation, deep relaxation, and examine the deeper energetics of the elements (doshas) and how to identify them in ourselves and students.

Study will invite students into a deeper perspective of their own healing journey by exploring how Ayurveda can assist their own cultivation of yoga, and how as teachers they can assist students more fully through an understanding of Ayurveda to continue their yogic awakening in their daily living.

The Art of Teaching: Advance Teaching Principles, Techniques and Mentorship Program

The Art of Teaching will take your teaching skills to new levels of clarity and precision. This program will focus on refining central teaching techniques with specific attention to clarifying verbal instructions, creating authentic themes, and weaving themes through your classes with heart-based language. You will study common teaching errors and practice powerful techniques that are applied by masterful teachers. Finally, you will study verbal and hands-on adjustments and develop creative solutions for mixed-level classes.

In the Mentorship Program, you will work one-on-one with a senior Kula teacher by assisting in their regular classes through observation, adjustments and teaching. This will be followed by a post class session to integrate and discuss your learning. You will also teach a regular class at Kula and recieve feedback directly from your mentor.

This is an essential course for anyone who teaches.

Pranayama, Meditation and Mantra

Prana, or breath, is the life-giving centre to all mind-body practices and yoga schools. Pranayama is one of the most efficient ways to silence the mind and open the doors of perception, as breath is a steady guide towards deeper states of meditation. Prana is also the energy behind the voice and mantra, which enhances the resonance for healing, re-patterning and helping you discover your true voice.

During this intensive, you will be guided through a progressively deeper understanding and experience of the vital forces of prana as a revered guide through physical practice, a companion in meditation, and as a powerful resonant energy field.

Topics include:


• Anatomy of breath

• What is normal/natural breath?

• Ujjayi, viloma, bhramari, nadi sodhana, kapalabati, bhastrika, sitali, sitakari

• Ayurvedic approach to pranayama and Pranayamas to pacify each dosha

• Asanas, active and restorative to enhance breath and prepare the pranic field

• Bandha or a-bandha; the science of seals and irrigation

• Listening and shaping the sound of breath. Breath as a mantra

• Savasana, vibration and cellular breathing

Structural Alignment Therapy: Part II


Expand your repertoire of hands-on-adjustments, and refine your techniques. This portion of the course will focus on emotional postural patterning, the inner and outer body, and work with the chakras to heal from within. In addition, we will cover how to conduct client interviews and working with clients.

The topics covered provide an essential foundation for effective yoga therapy techniques in the support of healing cancer and various illnesses. Learn to apply yoga therapy to heal and restore balance on all levels — physical, energetic, emotional, mental, and spiritual. You will learn how yoga therapy including asanas, pranayama, meditation, restorative yoga, yoga psychology, diet and lifestyle can be applied for specific conditions, such as: cancer, heart disease, addictions, anxiety, depression, immune system issues, stress management, insomnia, digestive issues, weight and metabolism.

Teaching Powerfully Aligned Flow Classes

Learn teaching techniques that incorporate more form into your flow classes. Many flow classes lack focus on flow. Yogahour is a flow style of yoga the emphasizes form via shape, safety, and refinement instructions. This training will bring more clarity and confidence to teaching powerful flow classes.

Chakras and the Human Energy System

We all have an awareness of our energy bodies. We know when we are in the flow or blocked, and sometimes when we are tuned in, we have an awareness of the ‘energetic capacity’ of those around us. But what if we were able to learn how to offer our students classes to support their energetic expansion and well-being in conjunction with physical asana? What if we learn how to see energetic alignment and it’s effects, as we see physical alignment?

We’ll step up the energy throughout the weekend to ensure you’re ability to see and experience the subtle bodies with ease. You’ll have many opportunities to practice experiencing the energy hands on, visually and etherically so you’ll have confidence to make these adjustments and offers effectively. You will learn about the subtle bodies, the chakras and how working with them can heighten your ability as an attuned teacher to support your students practice and well-being.

Restorative Yoga

Restorative Yoga is unlike other forms of Hatha Yoga in that this practice provides an opportunity to activate the parasympathetic nervous system and support deep surrender. In a fast paced and hectic world, this practice is a soothing balm that balances over-active tendencies and creates an environment of self-healing in the body. In this portion of the course, you will learn:

•The fundamentals of Restorative yoga through study, practice, and working with others.

•How to use various props to support different needs and bodies

•How to work with individual clients as well as group classes

•How to teach Restorative Yoga

•The art of sequencing classes and workshops

The focus of the Satsang will be to discuss the Art and study of Yoga and teaching, and to cultivate continued personal growth in the fulfillment of one’s dream.

Beth Rutty

Beth has been teaching yoga since 2001, and a Facilitator in Kula’s Teacher Training program since 2009. She is a Yoga Alliance certified E-RYT 500 teacher. Beth has a passion for teaching Meditation, Pranayama and Asana. She offers these practices to students as a vehicle through which to practice yoga and join the mind, body and heart. She offers the attention to detail from the Iyengar system, a focus on breath awareness from the Ashtanga system, and alignment based on universal anatomical principles from the Anusara system. Beth’s teaching poetically weaves themes that elevate the practice and inform a deeper understanding.

Beth encourages students to cultivate the awareness and skills to connect to their teacher within, and to live in the fullness of their embodiment.  She invites and supports each teacher trainee to teach from the most authentic place within themselves.

Colin Matthews

Colin is the founder and director of Kula, established in 2003.  He is a Yoga Alliance certified E-RYT 500 teacher, and holds two degrees from Dalhousie University in Education and Physical Education. Colin has studied with renowned Yoga teachers since 1999 across a variety of Yoga lineages, providing a breadth of technical and philosophical knowledge from which he shares.   He is a certified Medical Intuitive with primary study under Dr. Mona Lisa Schulz.

Colin’s approach to practice focuses on developing body wisdom as a symbolic lens to gain clarity for empowered alignment on the mat and in the practice of life. He invites an evolving conversation and exploration of living Yoga, with one’s self and in community.  His light-hearted spirit inspires a playful and engaged practice that is deeply rooted in attention, connection and expansion. His desire for teacher trainees is to cultivate the ability to see and support their students, and access their ever-present innate intelligence.

Hareesh Chris Wallis

Christopher Wallis, PhD, also known as Hareesh, was initiated into the yogic path at the age of sixteen and has since taken degrees in Indian philosophy at three prestigious universities, including Oxford, Berkeley, and Rochester, winning academic awards at all three. He has also received traditional yogic education at āshrams in India, Thailand, and upstate New York. He is now a freelance lecturer on meditation, spiritual philosophy, Sanskrit, and mantra-science, as well as offering sādhana coaching. He is the author of the groundbreaking book Tantra Illuminated.

His students say his teaching balances accuracy with accessibility, profundity with clarity, and intellectual integrity with heart-expanding inspiration.

Jesse Enright

Jesse has been a student of Hatha Yoga since 1994 and a full-time Yoga instructor since 1998. He has studied under senior instructors in India, Australia, Canada and the U.S. including, Gioia Irwin (Vijnana Yoga) and Doug Keller (Yoga Therapeutics). He is trained in Craniosacral Therapy and is certified in the Muscle, Balance and Function system of biomechanical re-education. Jesse has taught alignment and anatomy for teacher training programs since 2003, and he is actively involved in curriculum development.

In 2004, Jesse developed SmartYoga, an approach dedicated to an objective and scientific study of the amazing technology of yoga postures and their effect on the human body. He has a private yoga therapeutics practice working with individuals, doctors, massage therapists and chiropractors to develop personalized yoga programs for people with pain and injury.

Jesse’s teaching style combines precise experiential anatomy with an accessible light- hearted approach.
